A Short Story, But a Long Headache

As I stare at Hemingways short level Hills Like White Elephants I notice a small bit of distaste for him and his writing. This is probably because afterward multiple readings of his literature I still believe that he was one part literary genius and two separate crazy. Only after reading other works of interrogation on his story that it begins to make sense to me. My only wish is that he would of written a summary of his story and explained why he wrote the story so I wouldnt vex to rain cats and dogs over multiple papers deciphering his every play on word and every seemingly meaningless detail. I control with the majority that his work is at heart ab expose a man and woman who are struggling to make a decision on if they should have an abortion or extend their child. However I leave not over hypothesize every detail and instead shall try and point out the major details.
The first subtle hint of the meaning of the story comes very soon. Jig, the woman who is supposedly pregnant, points out to her lover that the hills contiguous the train station they are at look bid white elephants. These hills symbolize an elephant in the room or a problem that everyone is aware of but dont know how to go nearly talking of it. These hills also symbolize purity.



And what is more pure than a newborn child or a pregnant woman. This fibril of hills across the valley also symbolize the struggle they will have to endure if they have this child. And while it may be a struggle it will be worth it because it will be pure.
The dialogue of the couple is also a good indicator of the storyline. Jig says that the hills They dont really look wish white elephants.(401) What this means is that the pregnancy is not really a problem. She sees their predicament as something good and pure and it is not at all as bad as it seems.
