Education reform and caused a win over in culture as well as a change in the role of the teacher, the rise up, and community. Parents once sent their tikeren to coach in the hope that they would learn enough to be self-made adults. Moms used to join the PTA or be a mode mother in order to stay connected with their child and his or her education. These were the parents of regular education scholarly persons. Parents of students with special needs had a different past. Now that reform has made it possible for every last(predicate) children to receive a free and appropriate education, the school schema looks much different than it did in the mid Twentieth Century.
In a recent interview with Mrs. R. of Oregon, it was discovered that a parent of a student with special needs should be a strong advocate for their child. She has had to fight for many of her sons rights by going the school, talking with the classroom teacher, the special education teacher, and the principal. Her child has multiple disabilities including ADHD, ODD, and SLD.
He is a myriad of acronyms, she says, just now he is a person first, my child second, a student third, and a child with a disability last. (Renshaw, 2011)
Her desire is for wad to respect that and the first school her son attended did non seem to understand that. She spent many hours at the school, nerve-racking to find the right placement and the correct support for her son. Her effort resulted in her son universe placed in a self-contained classroom which was designed to help reduce the behaviors that were preventing him from being in the regular classroom.
